Accessibility – to revise Open Educational Resource (OER) materials to ensure accessibility and comprehensive coverage of all topics in course. This includes working with the eLearning Accessibility Specialist to ensure all material is accessible. The grant recipient should share the accessible materials on the CCCS Learning Object Repository (LOR) or other repository.
Adopting- to select OER materials that meet course learning outcomes and reduce textbook costs. The ACC OER Grant requires the replacement of a course textbook with the adopted materials. This process includes ensuring the material is accessible and sharing the material with colleagues. Adopting allows student access to course materials at the beginning of the course which facilitates course completion.
CC-BY License: The process to obtain the correct Creative Commons License can be found at the Creative Commons Website
Peer Review– to analyze OER materials i.e. a complete OER textbook, all the associated Powerpoint slides or testbank and give feedback to the creator to help improve the materials so they can be incorporated into an ACC course. The ACC OER Grant requires the recipient to publish a peer-review of the materials to the originator of the materials and share this review with the grant committee and program chair. This can be done in the evaluation process and can add to the amount received for adopting OER materials.
Remixing – A faculty member remixes a text when they create some of their own materials and incorporates them in other OER materials. This includes adding self-created ancillary materials to additional OER materials. The ACC OER Grant requires the recipient to detail the OER materials remixed and, if possible, submit them to the CCCS LOR to be shared with others and incorporate a CC-BY license. This includes the process of evaluating and accessibility. You can apply for Adopting or Remixing but not both.
Teaching – to update one’s teaching resources for that specific course to include OER materials so the course is zero to minimal cost to students when teaching the course. The ACC OER Grant requires that the Grant funded materials are incorporated into the course materials. The students of the course should have zero or minimal (printed OER) textbook costs for duration of the course. This funding is for every instructor full-time or adjunct who incorporates the material in their course.
Updating Materials –A course with an established pattern for OER adds new OER material or updates to new information for the discipline in order to increase the amount or quality of OER materials included in a course. This includes but is not limited to: adding ancillary materials such as text banks, Powerpoint presentation slides of the materials, or videos/podcasts to add a different media to the course materials. If the materials are self-created ensure they are accessible and try to secure a CC-BY license. The ACC OER Grant requires Grant funded materials to be shared with others through the CCCS LOR and/or to the originators of the materials.
