This guide discusses how to stay safe when out in the wilderness playing in the Colorado snow.

Safety Gear Check

Must have gear for safe winter backcountry travel: 

  • ShovelShovels: Flat blade, Scooped Blade, Serrated Blade, Blade with holes
  • Beaconhandheld Beacons 
  • ProbeProbes
  • Satellite GPS Communication devices3 Handheld GPSs
  • Repair kit Rope, cord, and other items needed for a repair kit 
  • Medical kitultralight/watertight medical kit
