Database Search Tips: Home

What are Databases?

Red Rocks Community college subscribes to many research databases in different subject areas, accessible under General Databases on the library website. These databases contain journal articles, books, case studies, and more, all of which may be useful to you when researching. Because they are organized under a particular subject, they can give you more relevant results than a simple Google search. Navigating databases may seem like more work, but once you learn, it can make your work much easier.

Types of Research Databases

When using a research database, it can be useful to know if it is full-text or not. Full text databases will give you immediate access to the listed resource, and will likely search through the entire text for any instance of your search terms. Other databases may only include resource citations and summaries. Searching these databases will give you results that only mention your search terms those more limited fields.
