The Hub is launching a new tracking system that utilizes the D2L Academic Professional Development (APD) Hub to document your participation in our programming through a user-friendly badge system.
The Hub tracks participation for all academic professional development events and activities that are sponsored by The Hub. The Hub does not track any professional development activities that are sponsored by other departments or that take place outside of CCA.
You can follow your professional development accomplishments by viewing your badges in D2L.
The Hub does not track professional development events that occur outside of The Hub. Departments are responsible for tracking external professional development and subject matter-related activities, including those required for CTE credentials (such as CTE in Colorado and 6 semester hours of continuing education related to industry). For information about tracking activities related to CTE, please contact Academic Effectiveness & CTE Initiatives Coordinator Sam Taylor (Samantha.Taylor@CCAurora.edu).
As a best practice, we recommend that you also keep personal copies of all certificates related to completed activities.
Please consult with your chair for any questions regarding the tracking of professional development and to ensure that all activities are properly documented in ProDev.
Most professional development activities in the Hub count toward instructor pay level increases.
Per the Faculty & Instructor Resource Guide, instructors advance through three levels of pay depending upon semesters of service and professional development hours completed. In the Hub, 1 Professional Development Unit (PDU) is awarded for 1 hour of attendance at eligible professional development opportunities. Eligible activities include:

To receive PDUs for a professional development activity, instructors must: 1) participate in an event or activity; 2) complete all activity requirements; and 3) complete the reflection survey for the event. PDUs for eligible activities will be input into ProDev by the Hub.
Participation in required training, such as the New Faculty and Instructor Orientation (NFIO), will be recorded in D2L and ProDev, but no PDUs will be awarded for required training.
Professional development activities that include less than 1 hour of programming, such as lunch sessions, will not be awarded PDUs and will not be added to ProDev.
Grant-funded professional development activities, such as Your Best Course Ever and the Culturally Responsive OER Review will be tracked in D2L, but are not eligible for PDUs and will not be added to ProDev.
When you participate in professional development activities, you'll earn badges that are easily visible in your D2L profile under "view my awards." To view your awards, click “Awards” on your D2L Home page.
You can also access your awards by checking your profile. Click your name in the top right corner, then click “Profile.”
To generate a shareable certificate demonstrating your completion of the professional development activity, click the award and click “Generate Certificate”.
In rare cases, a stipend may be available for mandatory training and workshops or for grant-supported professional development. If a stipend is available, we'll provide an explicit statement indicating the amount of the stipend and what you'll need to do to receive it.
Academic professional development activities sponsored by The Hub are not compensated with a stipend. For instructors, participation may count toward instructor pay level increase. For faculty members, participation may count toward institutional service. We encourage you to chat with your department chair to explore how these benefits apply to you.
